actuator on front axle

i have a 1990 Jeep Wrangler 4.2L 6cyl with  an actuator on my front axle, what is it for?

they are right its called the 4x4 actuator they are usually at least 150- 200 dollars. One of the most common ones for the BR trucks is 263.00 if i remember right. Its a pretty common thing to go in dodge trucks

another actuator made is called posi lock which usually runs around 100-150 depending on the lift
