Asked by Sharron Mar 24, 2019 at 03:19 PM about the 2017 Kia Optima EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My sons 2017 Kia Optima with 39000 miles check engine light came on while
driving on the expressway and would not accelerate past 60 miles an hour!
Any ideas why this would happen?

If you're the original owner that is going to be under factory warranty, take it to the dealership.

It probably has something the engine. There is a class action lawsuit on optima through 2019 models. The can all of a sudden seize up at any speed or they can catch on fire. Look up the “Kia engine settlement” it gives you information.
