how can I check a transfer case motor to see if it works from a 1999 ford ranger

I have the motor out how can I check the motor to see if if works

These were bad about a wire breaking to the 4x4 module behind the drivers seat. I wouldn't test it off of the transfer case. These are timed and if you put power on it off the vehicle it may trash it. It gets out of time and can't put itself in the proper mode. Put it back on and tap it with a small hammer to see if it locks in.
