can I switch my 1988 305 from throttle body injection to carburetor?

Asked by Nomad57 Feb 21, 2017 at 01:37 PM about the 1987 GMC C/K 1500 Series C1500

Question type: Car Customization

I have a 1988 Chevrolet C 1500, 305, 700R4, 3.78. It burns more gas than I know it should. No carburetor truck I ever owned before burned as much gas as this truck does. Another concern is this truck gets better gas milage in town than on the highway.

You should just figure out what the problems are and fix them. By the time you spend the money on a conversion, it could be money spent on what you have. The fuel injection is nicer, and it took me a long time to accept it, I liked the carbureted fuel delivery system also, since that was what I knew. But have since learned a lot more on all the newer stuff, and it is better.

You should have the error codes checked........I don't remember if the '88 I had still had a distributor....if no distributor, the cam sensor could be bad, that will affect performance and gas mileage. Also at some point they started putting knock sensors on the engines and if that is bad it will retard the timing give you bad gas mileage and hurt performance.
