'97 Jeep Cherokee Sport loses all power upon turning the ignition.

This happened a few times when I first bought the car. A friend had told me to disconnect
the negative gable for few seconds and that would fix it. Sure enough, it worked. That was
ten years ago. It started happening again this week. Now I have to disconnect the battery
completely a few times before it starts again. Brand new battery and it still happens. Any
ideas?

posasible short somewhere. i would start at the clockspring, check terminals.
