If the tank is full and you take off the hose to the fuel line shouldn't gas run

Nope ,,,not unless your cranking the engine, That old ford has a 140 or 170 engine and if you lived in the "Way Back" times you remember that the fuel pump was driven by the engine via a cam ,,,, the diaphragm did use to rupture and than NADA ,, fuel stopped ...you can do an electric pump conversion but you need a special pump because the carb needs to see no more than 5lbs pressure

The fuel line does not take off from the bottom of the tank so no fuel will run out without being pumped.

It's a "63" Falcon .... I got my first ,,,ah ,,, kiss in one of those at the Drive-In ...I still know that engine/transmission like the back of my hand
