No crank

Asked by 1999Jeepcherokee Apr 24, 2018 at 11:33 AM about the 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1999 jeep Cherokee classic.  Not a grand
Cherokee. Didn't drive it much this winter. Went out
last week and turned the key. The lights on the
dash come on but when I turn the key I get nothing.
Newer battery which I thought might be the
problem so I took my big craftsman charger out.
Put it on start and it started right up. I drove it
around and when I came home I put a trickle
charger on thinking the battery may have gotten
weak from sitting. Had a scheduled inspection
today that I had to cancel. Yesterday I went out and
got nothing once again. Tried to jump it like before
and got nothing at all. Stereo works fine, lights etc.
Last night I put a starter in it after trying to move
the shifter. Start in neutral. Check all fuses in car.
Even swamped relays in the fuse box under the
hood. When I try to jump the new starter I can hear
the solenoid, but no crank at all. I read some
similar forums and I was wondering if anywhere
out there had any other suggestions?  Could really
use some help. Thank you

make sure the batt. terminals are tight and any other electrical connections , if you're starting it in neutral the switch may be bad ,

I have checked all connections and cleaned anything that looked sketchy.. I've tried wiggling the shifter. Even tried to start in neutral with no luck, but thank you for the tips
