Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I have a college age son that wants an economical mustang, late 90's model. Does the V6 with auto compare with the manual in the real world. The manual transmission supposedly gets 20/30 MPG. Also, the V-6 engine has some negative posts on other web sites. Is it a decent engine?

been here done this... i had a a 94 V6 auto a while ago... the manual is a teeny bit better in the real world if you always drive it nice... but its a mustang and your son is at the age of adreneline ... so the auto will probabally be better... the V6 engines are FAMOUS for head gaskets at 110000km... 1500 dollar fix... as far as economy goes mine wasnt bad... as long as i always left it in drive and treated it as a cruiser... i wouldnt doubt the 30mpg on the highway at all... its slipery enough and the engine produces enough low end power that it can just sit there at about 1700 rpm on the highway...
