Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had to change Harmonic Balancer, it separated. I replaced idle pulley and
tension pulley. new belt. it has squealed ever sense. I put the old belt back on.
its not as loud but still there. all other pulleys move freely. could it still be a bad
belt? or something else?

Check the alignment of the pulleys, especially the ones you replaced, make sure they're all in the same plane. Check the tensioner is making proper tension.

I agree with the first comment. If the pulleys have no play and you have a new belt it could be the belt itself. There are some companies that make “quiet belts” with a cross hatched pattern on them that may minimize the noise.

My 2004 Sahara did the same thing at startup until the engine completely warmed up. Turned out to be the power steering pump. Until the pump and fluid warm up to temp, the seal between the reservoir and the pump housing is imperfect. Air coming through the seal causes the squealing sound. I changed the fluid and used Luke’s stop leak. Hasn’t made the sound since. I’d been chasing the sound for a loonnng time, making similar adjustments that you did. Now starts cold with no squeal.
