I have a 99 Ford explorer with auto four wheel drive. When u turn truck on it goes in four high will not come out until u drive it for about 1/4 mile then both lights flash on dash and I lose 4 wheel

Searched for: 2002 explorer put new control modual in, disconnected the battery installed the part reconnected batt. now it is stuck in 4 wheel drive low, put old cm back in in. now pressing hi 4x4 or auto only gets the 4x4 low light to blink for a while. dosnt come out of low range. also is not in 4 wheel drive. how can I get it into high gear 4 wheel or auto. 5 Answers

OK i'm stumped. I have a 2001 ford explorer(please keep comments about fords to yourself ). I've had 4 episodes where i was driving along with no issues and the even though i am excellerating the car stops running and the stalls out. Once i pull it to the side of the road and try to start it it back fires and qcts like it it out of gas but if you wait 30 plus minutes it will start and run for a bit longer then repeats itself a couple more times but then it will runs for days until it does it again. The check engine light is not on but the check gas cap is on. we replaced the gas cap and it is still on. The first time this happened I had it towed and the mechanic tightened the serpentine belt and fixed the manifold gasket. Does anyone have any ideas???? 14 Answers

Replaced shifter motor,on transfer case,motor does power up when you Hit 4Low,or 4 High,But does nothing when you try to put in 2 WD? Can not get it out of 4wd!!
