Question type: Maintenance & Repair

in the cold weather my battery had to be jumped to start.  I started it, came
inside and left it running to charge the battery, went out after 20 minutes & it
had stopped running and the battery was totally dead.  is there a relay or a fuse
or something to make it stop running?

If the battery is bad to begin with and you tried to recharge it with the alternator that is not designed to do so and burned it out it would just up and die due to low voltage. Now you could have blow a main fuse, or the cam and or crank sensor went bye bye, so start from square one, have the battery recharged and tested if it is bad replace it, then check for any blown fuses and if none are found then see if it will start, if it does then check the charging system, it should have close to 14.2 to 14.8 volts running, if less than that it's not charging properly, could be a bad alternator, broken wire in the charging circuits or the computer is not turning on the alternator, if it doesn't then replace the cam and crank sensors, and then proceed with the check out.
