can the rear door be opened when the car's battery is dead?

Asked by rwburden May 14, 2017 at 01:10 PM about the 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited 4WD

Question type: General

I have a key that works but the Jeep's battery is dead.  The rear door and window are locked.  The key will turn the rear door's lock, but the door will not open, and the rear window will not open.  Other doors will open.

Does the Anti Theft or Security light come on? In my Mercedes E350 if the batter dies, the car automatically locks me out of all essential systems as it senses that someone is attempted to remove the battery (to disable the security system) to steal the car. This may be the case in the jeep. Especially if the door has a power lock or is a power lift gate. Best of luck!
