Rear end went out on 2005 Jeep liberty

Asked by Jennifer Jun 12, 2017 at 01:04 AM about the 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I was backing out a driveway and all of a sudden the car stopped moving. It won't roll in drive, reverse or neutral. When pushing the gas all it does is rev. I don't understand whats wrong with it. There have been no weird sounds or anything. Please Help!

May just need to raise the Jeep up in the rear and take drive shaft out to confirm its the rear end, and if so take the wheels & drums off to make sure those brake parts are not binding up the rear end. Otherwise unless the rear end chunk (gears) are replaceable and you get a shop that can replace them and make sure the axles are not damaged, you will need another rear end unit. Junk yard savage yards will have one, just want to get one with the same gear ratio, your sticker on inside of drivers door may have the ratio..
