Replacing Honda SmartKey Battery But Still Doesn't Work

Asked by GuruM41T8 May 09, 2020 at 11:59 PM about the 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently the key said it had low battery which we changed with the correct
battery type for the key. After replacing it the key still doesn't not work.
It does not unlock the doors from a distance and we have to use the manual
key inside, we also have to hold up the SmartKey up against the Start/Stop
button to start the car.
Does this mean I have to take it into Honda to get it reprogrammed if that is
the reason why the key is not working?
The little red light above the lock button also does not light up like a normal
SmartKey fob would.

Sometimes when you replace a fob or key battery, the car loses the code to communicate with it. You need to reprogram the car to the fob. It's a pretty simple process and it should be described in your owners manual. Otherwise, google it to find instructions for your car.
