Is there a way of disconnecting the power kick lift gate?

Asked by Jul 08, 2017 at 10:28 AM about the 2017 Ford Edge SEL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I hate the power kick lift gate and would like to disconnect it. Ford tells me you
can't.  I find it dangerous, when loading if you step into far it closes on your
head. At times you have to reach in and get things toward the back like my
fishing rods. Half way out the gate starts coming down and I have to move
fast. I could live with just the up & down button.

I wonder if the sensor that detects your foot could simply be unplugged?

put something in front of the sensor like aluminum or duct tape and see if blocking it helps. No clue where its located but whatever is 'asthetically pleasing' if it is indeed mounted onto the bumper
