Interference engine

Asked by Kimberley Jul 16, 2017 at 07:27 PM about the 1999 Ford Escort 4 Dr SE Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Yesterday my car died while driving up a hill. I was
told the engine is shot due to the timing belt
breaking and causing the pistons to bend. Can you
please tell me what type of engine I have?

It don't usually hit when the belt breaks u need to remove the spark plugs and look with a camera to see which piston is hit if any

I have a 1999 ford escort 2.0 l I don’t know if I have a interference or non interference. They did a compression test 1 is operating at 60 psi and I was told the other 3 are dead by a mechanic.? I was told I would need to replace the engine. Or is it possible it can be fixed by replacing the timing belt.?
