Nissan rogue water leak

No, I don't think you should have to pay that, we have the same issue with our 2017 Nissan Rogue and we took it in and was charged just to look at it. And then said it would cost $3000 to fix because the drains were clogged. And then was told I should have cleaned them. Who buys a car and is told " make sure you clean you drain lines". If Nissan does not fix this issue I am seeing them, because now I have mold in this over priced car that they won't fix. I have filed with the BBB and now I am looking for a lawyer.

I had a 2019 Nissan Rogue and the sunroof tubing became clogged over time causing a very bad case of mold and mildew. The dealer was very accommodating making sure I had a loaner and the chemical bombing that they did to clean the car was done at no cost. However, now I can’t drive the car without feeling ill. I just traded it last night because of seriousness of the issue. The dealership told me that my fairly “new” car was worth ONLY $10,000.! It had only 40,000 miles on it! They proceeded to tell me that they would not resell my old car because of the smell/mold issue. (Each person who poked their head in the window of my car said that they would never drive the car as it was!). I feel a bit cheated even though I was treated well. Are there any other people out there who have had similar issues? I’m thinking a Class Action suit. I don’t want to file suit but feel I have been duped!

This little plug was the reason for my water problems in my 2011 Rogue SL. It had at least 5 gallons of water under the passenger seat and into the carpet and padding. My car smells horrible and after 4 months I hope this is the end of the problem. Never will I buy a Nissan because this sunroof drain has been problematic for years and STILL NO HELP FROM NISSAN! They only want to charge astronomical prices to correct it!

For Ed92626 Just so you know, I called in all my warranties that were available to me and that I purchased at the time of sale on my 2016 Nissan Rogue SE and were told my warranties did NOT cover sunroof issues even though the sunroof was factory installed. I also called my insurance company to see if there was anything that I could do, and never got a call back! So, under the circumstances, I had no choice but to trade. Yes, I feel cheated. My husband now thinks we should have hired an attorney to help us get the car properly taken care of. I’m thinking if VW has got a class action suit on the same issue. Perhaps this a part that was bought from a vendor that has gone bad and it’s faulty causing clogging. I don’t know but I am very suspicious. Perhaps we need to pressure Nissan with the sale law suit. Look, my car had Inly 40,000 miles on it and I got a mere $10,000 for it because Nissan said they could not sell it as it was. Cheated? I feel that way but in reality is it something they are aware of and are finding unsuspecting naive people like me who will help boost their new car sales?

My 2015 Rogue just started leaking about 1.5 years. The dealership fixed it at no cost but it started leaking again a week or so again. This time I had to fuss to get it covered. They unclogged the drain but left all the water in the car! Still trying to dry out the car. Seems like as soon as I soak up most of the water, it fills up again by the next day. What a pain. Will NEVER buy a Rogue again as much as I have loved this car.

I have a 2014 Nissan Rogue that I purchased new. It has leaked since the day I bought it. I finally took it to the dealer today and they said it was a seam in the firewall that was not welded. Of course they are not covering it now that it is almost 7 years old. It has 32,000 miles on it and has been nothing but problems. This was my 5 Nissan but never again.

i bought the car new and it was on the showroom floor (where I wish I had left it) so I don't think it has been involved in a wreck. It only had about 5 miles on it. But you are right, they just wanted to get rid of me ASAP.

My wife has a 2014 Nissan Rogue with Panoramic Sunroof. Has leaked on the drivers side since shortly after she bought it. Told her that she has to clean it regularly. Told her not to park under trees. She has done everything that they told her. It till leaks. What bothers me is that the Panoramic Sunroof was one of the selling points of this Nissan Rogue. At no time did the salesman tell us of this maintenance requirement. I have a 2011 GMC Yukon with a Sunroof and have never had this problem. Service department was condescending and dismissive. Nissan should acknowledge this design problem and repair.

Has anyone ever followed up with a Class Action Lawsuit? I just brought my 2015 Nissan Rogue in, as I was hearing water swish around underneath the passenger side floor. My car is regularly maintained and never had any "warning" indicating an issue. Turns out the bottom of my car was FILLED with water and is considered "totaled". This is obviously a reoccurring issue.

I think it’s time to file a class action law suit! But how do you go about doing so? My Reseach revealed car owners that owned VW’s have filed a law suit against the company who manufactures the tubing in and around sunroofs. So class actions are happening.

Ed….thank you for you valuable input. I’m not one to sue so I doubt I will pursue CALS. However, I’m really curious if it’s the dealership responsibility to check SUNROOF drain or the owners? I’ve owned many cars in my 59 years and a majority of them have had sunroofs. Not once did I know that maintenance was needed on a regular basis. I solved that problem with the purchase of a new car. Never will I own another car with a sunroof! Again, I trust your expertise concerning Class Actions. I’m really ready to move on and I did by changing from Nissan to Toyota, from a passenger car to a pick up truck! And I LOVE IT!

I'll assume that you're right: it is the sunroof drain that's clogging or there might be a defective drain backflow valve/plug as Tiffany showed; though I can't imagine why there would be a valve/plug there as this would seem to impede regular flow. It's still the responsibility of the car owner to keep the drain clear and see that it does properly drain the area. Otherwise, water can build up in the sunroof well to the point where it overflows into the car. This is part of regular maintenance and needs diligent attention in any car that has a sunroof. Maybe the Nissan drain system is problematic, but that doesn't remove the responsibility from the car's owner..... As for law suits, legally, you can sue anyone for anything, but anything can be determined as frivolous by a court. And as this is a maintenance item, I can't see a court handing down a favorable ruling for you. Class Action Suits are of a particular problem, as those that have been successful have dealt with issues of safety, fuel economy, and emissions. A drain tube problem isn't going to make it..... My professional background has been in Construction & Engineering, and I've participated in construction defect litigation for some time. My daughter is an attorney and a judge in the Orange County (California) superior court system and that often leads to interesting discussions between us. I've been involved in car racing all my life and even at my current old age, I still participate in racing, but now it's mostly in service/repair and social events where people don't seem to mind my reminiscing..... I wish you well, though the hill you'll have to climb seems ridiculously steep.

Has anyone been able to find a lawyer for this? We have a 2019 Rogue with the same issues. It is my daughter's car but she is temporarily living out of town so the car is in our driveway. Went to get in the car last week to run it (it usually just sits in the driveway) and the smell was awful. Brought it to the dealer where we bought it and they said the sunroof drains were clogged - they wanted $795 to fix. I pointed out that it doesn't say anything in the maintenance schedule about cleaning the drains, nor does it have anything in manual saying that it is something for you to clean. They blamed it on trees and parking outside. Ha! We had a Nissan Pathfinder with a sunroof that parked in the same place and never had problems. They ended up doing it for free but all it says in that they did was to blow air in and clean the drains. I asked about the smell and they suggested Stanley Steamer. So they are out in the driveway now for $336. My concern is that the water is below the carpet soaked in the padding and that this won't be able to pull the smell out. I washed the rear smaller mats in the washer and they still stink. Oh...did I mention there were several spots with white fuzzy mold? I am afraid that the car we bought brand new as a graduation present for our daughter is now completely ruined and unsellable. We are at 24,672 miles so just above the lemon law for GA.

I’ve got exactly the same problem as all of you. About two months ago the car started to stink - the dealership did nothing and claimed to have had one or two vehicles stink because rodents had somehow gotten in to the engine area and died. I’ve searched the engine and the interior and found nothing. About 6/8 months ago my wife noticed that the sun visor on the passenger side was soaked however I could find no other water in other areas so I attributed the leak to an open window. In the last week the entire front and back floors are water soaked and the dealer has nothing to offer. This is the second car I’ve bought from this dealership and both leaked. I understand the leak (not the source) but what caused the smell.

I heard there was a TSB for the drain tube clogging in these cars. I have searched but cannot find one. Does anyone know?

I have the same issue with my 2017 Rogue and has the same with my last Nissan so frustrating that the Dealship won’t do anything. I’m so down for a class action suit

Just discovered sloshing water at floor boards of my girlfriend's certified preowned 2015 Rogue. Since the dealership or manufacturer is unwilling to claim any liability. Both dealership and manufacturer were not willing to take responsibility. Stating this was the owner maintenance responsibility "which by the way is not listed anywhere in the Owners Manual-Maintenance booklet. Fortunately I was able to locate a auto repair shop in my area that was familiar with the issues with clogged drains on the Nissan Rogues...quote over phone $180-$350. Honestly, after watching the YouTube video illustrating what is involved in unclogging the drain...I am happy to pay a professional mechanic do it for me! As far as a class-action suits, I strongly disagree with the gentleman's comment that this may thrown out of court as a frivolous lawsuit! That being said, If there is anyone that has talked with an attorney regarding this matter, I would like to know the content of that consultation...Thanks Phil

Has anyone been able to address this issue successfully or had electrical issues down the road due to the water damage? Did anyone get their comprehensive insurance to cover the water damage?

My 2016 Rogue just went into the shop today for water inside. The service tech told me unless they can find, after charging me the $145 diagnostic fee, that the plug for the sunroof is faulty, I am responsible for the cost to remediate. I feel that since they know this is a design flaw and its not listed anywhere for the consumer to do preventative maintenance, it should be covered under warranty. I am not happy with Nissan. WILL NEVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN.

Nissan of Bay Shore worst dealership ever. Over $800 dollars to clean the drains that flood the car on the Rouge 2018 just bought and certified. Carpet $2000 nothing covered under B to B call Simon WAPOS. My compliant will go corporate. I am somewhat glad I am not the only one I wonder if we can put them out of business?

My 2018 Nissan Rouge is in the shop right now because of water under the seat. The mechanic is recommending unclogging and then redirecting the drain to prevent it from happening again. That turns it into a design flaw. I bought a bumper to bumper warranty with no deductible. They are talking about charging me $800. We are waiting for a manager to call us back. We have asked for a statement and copy of the exact page where it states it isn't covered. Then I'm taking to my lawyer on my legal plan. A design flaw IS NOT a maintenance issue.

I don't understand how Nissan can claim this is a maintenance issue when the drains are not accessible without removing trim pieces that are not meant to be removed. It's not like an oil change. My daughters car got a lot of water into the spare tire well when it rained hard and the car smelled so bad like spoiled milk. We followed the steps to unclog the front drains from the internet and found those had already been done (remove the little nub from the center of the drain outlet). The rear ones were even worse! The drivers side is accessible through the little cubby that stores the jack, but the passenger side required we remove the plastic trim from inside the car. Now we are careful make sure it's parked flat when it is raining, and if it rains hard get it under cover (garage). It's ridiculous. As soon as we can we are going to trade it in for something else and I'll never consider another Nissan. This is absolutely a design flaw and not a maintenance issue.

I am still waiting on an answer for my 2016 Rogue. Even in my estimate from the Dealer, they listed it as due to a kinked drain tube. Sounds like a design flaw to me. Nissan won't honor the extended warranty and quoted me $5790 for repairs. My insurance is still debating whether they will cover any of it as Nissan has stated it is a maintenance issue. I am totally the loser here as I have been without a car since Oct 4th with no end in sight. It may be time for those of us P O'ed enough to move forward against Nissan.

I am skeptical this is due to a clogged sunroof drain. Most likely this is due to a design flaw with the air-conditioning system. Condensation forms on the cooling system coils, and if its not drained properly, it enters the inside of the vehicle and makes its way to seat areas. I have this same problem in California where we get little rain.

I cleaned my drain tubes and removed the "nub" in the middle of the drain. I poured water in the sunroof over and over, it came out the bottom. But as soon as we got a big rain, it was full of water again. I'm at a loss. Going to clean it out very well and start putting a cover on it when its raining to help. I guess, ugh

Known factory defect. Waiting to hear if Nissan will take care of this for me.

I have a 2014 Rogue . I bought it used in 2018. In 2021 I had the same problem. Water sloshing sound in floor. My dad told me my sunroof drains are probably clogged. I had no idea. I never contacted Nissan because I thought it was my fault even though I was never told. I took all the interior out myself and sucked out around 4 gallons of water from the floor and carpet. Cleaned everything up and aired it out with fans. It took around 4 or 5 days. I also took the plugs out of the drains. I seen it online. Here we are in 2023 and my carpets are wet again, but it's winter so they also freeze. I searched Nissan rogue water in floor and found this. THIS IS CRAZY HOW MANY PEOPLE THIS HAPPENS TO.

I used a $5 can of air and unclogged my passenger side sunroof blockage. Wonder how long that'll maintain. Now I have to figure out how to clean all the water stains in my roof. Can of air really flushed it out though

My wife's 2015 Rogue SL, with sunroof, there is a pool of water on the driver side B pillar. (2023-07-31) it rained for last 2 days, and it has been raining on/off sometime heavy last 2 weeks. We don't drive the Rouge much now (2021 Rav4 Prime takes all the millage now with 50mile/80km EV range). This will be our last Nissan

My 2017 Nissan Rogue's (no sunroof) flooring was was recently flooded and thoroughly soaked. After pumping out about 2 - 3 gallons of water I realized just vacuuming the carpeting would not remove all of the water from the padding under the carpeting. With a lot of effort and determination I removed all of the seats and plastic trim in contact with the carpeting and was able to lift up the carpeting to gain access to all of the padding and vacuumed out another 1 - 2 gallons of water from the padding and floor. With electric heaters and fans i was able to thoroughly dry out everything. Without doing this the water soaked padding would never have dried out. The whole project took about 2 days. I'm an 83 year old carpenter not a mechanic. If I could do this anyone could. It's worth the effort to avoid someone saying your car is totaled or can't be sold if smelling musty or moldy. They will offer you a ridiculously low price, dry it out and sell it for a ridiculously inflated price.

So I drive a 2012 Nissan Rogue. had it for about 4 years now. Same issue. leak on the passenger side that has SO MUCH MOLD AND MILDEW, that I am just about to burn it to the ground. I vacuum the car every week, because I don't want to get stuck with new car payments. I just had it steamed last week because of the mold issue growing everywhere in the car. I had Nissans all my life and I can tell you, I will never purchase a Nissan again. they need to stop making the Rogues. SHAME ON NISSAN FOR IGNORING THIS ISSUE!
