Transmission replaced twice in 2017 Nissan Altima

Sounds like you and I both got lemons. I wonder how many other people are having issues with 2017 Altimas? Look at my post.

Son just had CVT sub assembly replaced at 47,000 mi.on 2017 Altima.

Just had 2016 Altima 2.5 SR CVT sub assembly replacement at 25k miles! Nissan better extend the warranty on these cvt like the 03-10 model years to 10 years 120,000 miles.

Sounds like the 2017 Altimas were all lemons mine is at the dealership right now for the same problem at 32,000 miles.

My daughter has a 2016 Nissan Altima lemon car. She is afraid to drive her car in Atlanta, GA traffic. The car hesitates and is dangerous. When you are making payments on a car and has to come up with over $4,000.00 to replace a transmission, I say buy some other car that will last. I would not recommend a Nissan car to anyone.

At 56,000 my 2016 Altima was just in the shop having to replace my cvt sub assembly and valve body. My warranty which is about to end paid for it. I got my car back and traded it in the same day. It’s too dangerous for my kids and I to ride in.

My 2017 Altima is at the dealership now getting the transmission replaced. It has 27k miles on it. Does anyone know how transmission replacement effects trade in value?

Hi there guys. I also have a 2017 Nissan Altima at with 52000 miles on it. Transmission just failed and it's at the dealership right now getting the whole sub assembly replaced and a couple of fluid pressure solenoids. These things are junk and I knew they would be. I should have done more research before I bought it. I'll never buy another Nissan again. Instead of replacing the whole transmission they just want to replace the broken parts, sounds half ass to me, thanks billion dollar company for screwing over a hard working person. Dealership is no better, as soon I got there the first thing they said was they don't make the decision on what gets done, they said Nissan corporate does. Well, corporate has to initially go by what the tech relays to them so that's only half true. The tech will say whatever is going to be the cheapest and that's what gets done, that's how bonuses get made. Poor car manufacturer plus poor dealership.

I forgot, I still have three years worth of payments left on this pos, all I get is a 12 month 12000 mile warranty on this thing. This company needs to get sued again in my opinion for these cars.

The same exact thing just happened to me yesterday. Ive had my 2017 since June of 2017. My car was towed to nissan of athens and they are telling me that they only have the okay to rebuild my transmission. i feel this is a load of CRAP! I do not want to continue making payments on a car i can not depend on. I want to be traded into another car for the total i have left on my current loan. No one at the dealership understands the headache that i am having with this situation. Its not fair.

My transmission went out while I was on the highway. I was so scared. I wish Nissan would do something.

My brothers 2017 altima just cvt just died, I got in contact with corporate they offer 60/40 split I cover 40 which would be $1700 for just the sub assembly not good enough I'm gonna do everything I can get media involved

I am definitely all in for a Class Action. I have a 2017 Nissan Altima. I wish I had researched the vehicle instead of trusting the brand. This has been one of the biggest mistakes of my life.

I have a 2016 Altima SV. At about 35,000 miles the transmission started to go and it threw the proper code that forced Nissan to change out the control valve and subassembly. My car lost power at 4 intersections in a row. The only thing that saved me was it was 9pm and there were no other cars on the road. Scary stuff. This was back in February, and now two months later we are having issues again. The tachometer needle is jumping all over the place and Nissan won't do anything about it because the tech can't duplicate it and no codes are being thrown. Unbelievable.

Same here 2017 Nissan Altima transmission replaced at 45k miles as it was jerkin and completely failed now at 70k and it feels like the problems is restarting have an appt at Nissan Saturday. Ugh

I have a 2016 Nissan Altima Same issues as most people 35,000 miles and transmission died. Mine had a rebuilt title so no warranty. I am selling mine for parts.

I am on my 3rd Nissan Altima in about 10 years. First two I had no problems. This one, a 2016 Altima with only 41k decided to breakdown on me. Car at shop now getting a transmission sub-assembly. While car is still under warranty, I do not feel safe driving it. I intend on contacting my loan company and Nissan. My plan is to turn my car in to the Nissan dealership and get out of the loan. I should not have to "feel" unsafe in my car, especially a Nissan.

I have a 2017 Nissan Altima as well; bought brand new - My transmission just went out at 49k. Luckily I am covered under warranty, but I almost got into an awful accident on the highway because my car started literally stopped accelerating in the middle of the road. Did I mention that I was almost an hr away from home? I am a medical student who works in multiple hospitals across my state, so I need a reliable car to get me around. I stuck have 3 hrs yrs worth of payments on this pile of junk, and I am livid.

Same problem as everyone else. I have a 2017 Altima and 2017 Rogue and feel like I have two time bombs sitting in my drive way. Nissan has always made it easy to get financing which is why I kept coming back. I am upside down in the car now, so hopefully I'll have an option to get out of it. I was planning on giving the car to my daughter but don't feel it is safe to drive. I see Altima's everywhere I look, not sure why people keep buying them?

I also have a 2017 altima. Trans went out at 38000 miles. I only had the car for 1 year and drove it myself 21000 miles. (Has 17000 on it when I bought it.)Dealer rebuild it...my car was there getting rebuilt trans for a whole month. It is very scary! I almost got hit by a semi truck on I-65. Then almost got rear ended by another car as well. I'm scared to drive this car! I had a 2004 altima that I quit driving when I bought this one. It had 230000 miles on it and was the best car I've ever had. That's why I bought another altima. Big mistake! I don't understand how Nissan can keep selling faulty cars! I am beyond upset! This car is not safe for me and my family period!

I have spent over $4000 on my lemon 2017 Nissan Altima and now they want another $1600. They did a 60/40 split on my transmission replacement for a cost of $1200. In less than a month, it completely stopped running and that cost was a "discounted" $2100. Because my check engine light was still on even after all the suggestions repairs were completed, I returned and purchase d their battery to hopefully resolve. But still, no luck. Now they're claiming diesel fuel contamination that that will cost only an additional $1600 to repair. Yes it is a dangerous vehicle! Yes it is a piece of crap! Same trouble here. I bought my 2017 Altima new and it’s been trouble since I bought it. Now my transmission is out.

2017 Altima, 40.6K miles - CVT went out on 8/7. Dealership is trying to wiggle their way out of covering this through warranty!!! Apparently, since I tried topping off the fluid (everything my husband read lead us to believe we should try that first) and it is "red" vs the "green" Nissan Factory fluid color, they believe I could have caused this issue. (Even though the failure occurred BEFORE I ever bought the fluid! AND the bottle says it is rated for Nissan CVT NS3 Transmissions!!!!) Soooooooooooooo unhappy and ANGRY right now!!!

I have a 2027 NISSAN ALTIMA as well with only 25,000 miles on it.. My Transmission has gone out. These cars is indeed a Lemon and should be addressed as a recall. Well I purchased this car in August of 2017 meaning it's less than 4 years old. Because I'm not counting until up to August when I got the car. So I'm looking at three years driving the car. I'm very upset I'm hurt and I need answer's.. What ever happened to your car and did they fix the problem?

There should be a law against NISSAN for saleing Lemon's.. Getting rich off of people that doesn't have money to give away like this.

I have the same problem with my 2017 Altima. Qit while on local expressway and now fighting with my extended warranty company to have it replaced. Nissan should take a very serious look into the problems with the 5th generation trannys, to many people are having the same problem it seems.

I have a 2017 nissan altima that has a bad cvt transmission. Which is not under warranty. They give no option for help. There is a whole law suit about this and yet they don't value their customers lives. My car killed mid turn where I could have been t boned and while driving down the interstate at 70 mph I could have been rear ended. Their only solution to us is to pay 3600 to fix it. They offer nothing to your customers and u do not value our safety or our lives. I am on my 3rd nissan I loved my cars but this is my last and I will make sure everyone knows how u don't value life or safety.

2016 Altima SL with 16,000 miles...,car has been at the dealer since 8/27 getting trans valve sub assembly. I’m freaking out and not sure I can trust this car. Beautiful otherwise.

My 2017 Altima transmission fried anout 4 weeks ago on the interstate at evening rush hour My Nissan dealer had had it over a month and its still 6th inline for repair. They gave me a 2020 Altima to drive. It has 3,000 on the odometer and it is slipping. Nissan mechanic told me 2021 Nissan will not be using the cvt after 2020. Pain in the ass!!!

I just had mine replace at 64000. Almost got stranded two hours from home with two little kids.

I am experiencing the same on my 2017 nissan altima. Bought it used a year ok. I should have did my research the internet search shows that here has been a long history regarding transmission issues. There has been a class action lawsuit Nissan did not win. They offered extended warranties for some year models. I am gonna call Nissan to see. They need to be held accountable. They have know for some time the cvt transmission sucks but they continued to put them in their cars.

I’m in shock!!! I have been driving Nissans for 24 years!! NEVER had a problem. I now have a 2017 Altima. I was headed to Atlanta from Fl 10-12-20 in the middle of no where on 65 N my transmission goes out!!! I’m furious & even more so after reading all these complaints. I say let’s find a way to file a class action lawsuit. It CAN be done & we should try. NISSAN you have really screwed up!!! You knowingly are putting people’s lives & families members at risk!!!! Damn good thing you didn’t try and charge me anything!!! How dare you charge ANYONE when it is NISSAN manufacturing and selling lemon DANGEROUS vehicles to innocent people This has really got me upset & I WILL NOT LET IT GO!!! Worst car I ever had. Brand new 2017 Altima both the tranny and back brakes( and rotors????) went at 25,000. Fixed the tyranny, charged me 600 for brakes, even with extended warranted! I am a senior citizen, have owned brand new cars since the 70’s, NEVER do back brakes go 1st, at 25,000 miles????? They told me, “they are all different now. I called BS. Been looking for lawsuit on this, tranny and all other lemon parts to this car, also, totally disgusted on how I am treated by this company, rude, mean spirited customer service, and lying dealerships!!!

Oh wow I literally just picked my 2017 Nissan up from the dealership for the same issue today. So very grateful that I was still under warranty& it only has 47000 miles on it. This is ridiculous to have this type of issue with a 3 year old car smh

I just bought a used 2017 Altima 2 months ago with 12500 miles on it. It was a barely driven lease that someone turned in. At 15000 miles, the transmission died and it’s at the Nissan dealer being fixed. They are refusing to replace the transmission, they said it has a bad valve body. And if that doesn’t work, then they will try replacing other parts until it’s fixed. I really liked this car, but I have lost faith in it and because it’s used, I’m stuck with it. I’ll never buy another Nissan ever again and I’m going to make sure I tell my story to everyone I know so no one else has to go through this. I have never heard of any cars transmission failing with such low miles. Never again!!

Same issue. I bought a used 2017 Altima with 32,500 miles on it. The transmission is shot. Does anyone have a link to info on the class action. Has a consumer Union or group of people burned by this car tried to collectively go after Nissan on this?

Let me know if one come about because paying for a car and then replace transmission is outrageous

Hello, I bought a 2017 Nissan Sentra in July of 2020, and in October of 2020 i had to have a whole transmission change and again today march 2021. I haven’t even had the car for a full year and already it has needed two transmission changes. Is there anything i can do? Maybe change the car? I already spoke to a lemon law representative, they said that there is already an open case regarding this and that Nissan just extended the mileage warranty from cars 2017 and up i guess. I was just looking for anyone to help to let me know if it would be possible to switch the whole car. I don’t feel safe driving a car anymore that has stopped randomly on me twice.

Frank I have a 2017 Altima that is just under 3 years old but only has 15,500 miles on it and I have already had this same problem and had to have the CVT sub assembly and valve body replaced! I asked my dealer if this was a common problem especially since my car has such low mileage. The service manager said this problem is not very common and is just a freak occurrence!!! From what I am seeing this seems to be a very common problem. I plan on calling my service manager and enlightening him!!!!

Having the same issues with 2017 Nissan Altima. Nissan says our warranty is void due to fluid contamination. Transmission fluid service was performed by Big O Tire less than 24 hours prior to dropping the car to Nissan. Big O Tire said they used Valvoline CVT full synthetic. For those having issues, we’ve contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs at 615- 275-1000. They’re supposed to act as a mediator but Sara the consumer affairs representative was of no help. Basically said nothing can be done. Although she is supposed to act as a mediator, she said she is Nissan Corporate when I asked for corporates number. How do you have a mediator thats not independent of the company they work for? Asked about 60/40 split that some have mentioned in the forum and she said Nissan is not able to offer that. Although service manager did say that may be an option but he can’t do it. She mentioned contacting BBB Auto Line. Searched and the website is https://bbbprograms.org/programs/all- programs/bbb-autoline . Phone number is 1- 800-955-5100. There needs to be a class action lawsuit/recall/extending of the warranty. We’re paying $$$ for useless junk.

Same issue for me as all of you! I have a 2017 Altima, brand new off the lot. LOVED the car! And, just put new rims and tires on it a few months ago. I first had to take it back for a heat shield failure (which was under warranty). Next, came a throttle body issue that threw code and made the check engine light come on. It started driving funny over the weekend, and the tachometer was all over the place as I drove. It's in the shop AGAIN and the transmission needs to be replaced. I have about 63,000 miles on the vehicle, and I take VERY good care of it. Thank God I bought the extended warranty for 75 months/100,000 miles. Once it's fixed, I'm trading it in on another brand.

The CVT transmissions overheat. They overheat because Nissan wants them to run as hot as possible, and get hot as fast as possible, so instead of transmission coolers, they install transmission heaters. This HEATS UP the tans with hot radiator fluid as soon as you start it. This is done to improve MPG so they can put a higher MPG on their window sticker. In EUROPE the MPG laws are different, so in EUROPE Nissan installs actual transmission coolers, because fluid temp isn't factored into MPG ratings. ITs a ridiculous scam. If you're stuck with one of these piles of junk, first, get a Scangauge 2. They cost about $150, you plug it in (very simple) to a port in your dash, and you can see your trans temperature in real time. Its small, and I mounted mine (with Velcro) on top of my steering column, its nice looking, and it almost looks like a factory gauge, you can set the color to match your instruments (green) looks cool. If your temp ever goes above 220, slow down, if it ever goes over 230, consider parking the car for about 15 min. Also, you can get an aftermarket trans cooler for about $200. (Google 2017 Nissan Altima transmission cooler) any good mechanic can install it. If you drive hills, drive over 80, or drive with a load (people / luggage) you'd be amazed how fast, and how hot, the trans gets. With the Scanguage, you can keep a sharp eye on it, and adjust your speed, and it cools down (under 200 is best) For $350 or so, you can probably double the life of your transmission. Nissan won't install coolers because of CAFE standards. Every MPG they shave off their fleet of cars, the more brownie points they get from the EPA, so for them, its all about the money. Yours.
