F250 Death Wobble

Asked by Ryan Feb 05, 2019 at 02:30 PM about the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty XLT SuperCab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Been to two dealers for the death wobble 15
days in the shop and a few weeks of limited
driving as ford tries to figure out the problem
over the last 30 days.   Is this covered under
the lemon law?   Truck only has 20k single
owner and has been into the shop 3 time
alone for death wobble.....dropping it off
again today as the entire front end
suspension was replaced less than a week
ago.   Shaking is not as bad but has a very
bad vibration and floats worse than my 90
model F250.    Any insights on a buy back or
lemon law as it seems Ford is not of any
assistance.

Lemon laws vary from state to state. If the dealer is not fixing it, call the Ford Motor company consumer relationship number. https://owner.ford.com/contact-us.html

The Super Duty death wobble is a well known issue. All you probably need is an aftermarket HD track bar.

This is just one of many options. https://www.roughcountry.com/forged-adjustable-track-bar- 5100.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrr3P_sml4AIVFNlkCh3Tzg2qEAQYASABEgLt3PD_BwE

FOR I have replaced the entire front end or Ford did. I still have the same problem validated by the Ford tech on a 2 hour test drive. Additionally the wobble has been so bad other components are failing. The a/c turns off and on by itself and I feel like I am driving on a wash board at 100mph. Even after an alignment I pull to the left when driving and jerk to the right when braking. I have considered aftermarket parts but shouldn’t have to at 19k miles. The dealership just said my tires may be bad, and wanted to know if I considered replacing them. Again 50k tires should not be a problem at 19k. Most of my frustration comes from trying to do the minimum at the expense of my time.

Shoot if someone figures out the lemon law for this that would be awsome. I have the same issue, same year and model etc. I hate paying this much money for a truck i cant drive ugh I was on the freeway today pulling my camper and there it went shaking violently for the millioneth time, and i just keep getting blown off by ford motor co.

I have a 2017 F250 with 18K miles and in November had the death wobble hit us on I40 outside Nashville at @80. Scare us almost to death and few drivers around us! Pulled off interstate thinking I lost a wheel! Liked at front and saw nothing out of ordinary. P Continued on and stayed at 74 which we had been at most of way over. Told my SinL and said I thought only Jeeps got that. So to internet and found this. We came home next day and had it happen 3 more times at 74, then 70 and finally at 65. Got off IS and went back roads home. Went in shop Nov 19th. Dealer new all about it. They have service bulletins about it and the service managers had experience with it. The part, steering damper, was nation wide back order, which is usually unheard of. After 2 weeks service manager told me to call Ford CS which I did, and was told, it would be elevated and I hear back. 1 1/2 days later got a call back. It was explained to me that 1 Nov Ford changed manufactures of the steering damper and it will be at least 2 to 3 weeks before my dealer gets part. wanted to know if I had gotten a rental, which I hadn't, she said to get one on their dime and I ask her about 4 wheel align dealer said they recommended to do which normally I would pay for and haggle with Ford, she that will be takin care of. Also ask if I can truck instead of a car, they approved it. So I have 2020 F150 in garage.

Ford bought my 2017 F-250 back in October for the Death wobble issue. I ordered a 2020 to replace it not sure of this problem has been addressed but mine started at 13k miles and I traded it in at 30k. Was not a big issue for Ford and they didn't argue. The truck tried to kill me on several occasions and I always had to white knuckle it down the highway because you never knew when it would happen. Sometimes the wobble was uncontrollable and very scary. You would lose braking power because the Anti-lock brakes would get confused. Other times it was a much more controllable wobble. Ford did their TSB and warranty work on my truck several times. Track bars, Drop links, Steering dampners, Toe in etc... It kept coming back after a few thousand miles. When the truck was solid, it was great but you knew when it was unstable and ready to wobble. It was bad with no or little weight in the bed.
