Knterior light on Randomly, car locking unlocking random succession, antitheft light flashes

Asked by Amanda Feb 28, 2018 at 08:05 PM about the 2000 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My interior light comes on stays on then
how's off randomly, door ajar lights comes
on and off randomly, door locks randomly in
quick succession while driving down the
road, beeping all sorts of buzzing, anti theft
light flashes when you start the car and
when you turn off ignition.  All these
problems started the same day, just all of a
sudden, before that no issues.  Fuse
possibly?  We did put WD 40 on all door
latches.  I can't tell any wires have been
damaged shutting and opening door??

You have a door lock actuator that failed, you should be able to hear which door lock is cycling/buzzing,That will be the bad one. ( This is the latch assy.NOT the handle or switch).

I've noticed sometimes I have to shut drivers side door several times to get it to shut well when I'm getting out of the car. All doors lock with door lock button on drivers side door panel except passenger door must be locked and unlocked manually. When you lock the doors on drivers side switch the passenger lock acts like it wants to come down or up. What I mean is it kind of jumps when you hit the button. What exactly do you mean by hearing the "lock cycling/buzzing"? I've only had the car about a month and rarely drive to be honest. Haven't had any issues with door ajar light and door lock thing until few nights ago now it's every time I've driven the car. Just seemed odd to me it was sudden but maybe it wasn't I just didn't realize the signs? I'll keep you posted!

Well now the electric windows won't work if you use drivers door panel to lower/raise them. I'd forgotten to mention the drivers side window hasn't rolled down since purchased, passenger window was slow to lower if controlled by drivers door. Tomorrow I'll check see if they roll down with any of the other door panels. What's next?!?

TrannyMan: Well I battled the mud to check the fuses in floorboard. I managed to check that all were correct amps and in right place but only got two that I actually got out and made sure they were good before my knees gave out on me lol. I suppose since I'm 37 and falling apart its only fair the car is I got is to lol. I did check a few things see what all isn't working and what is. Currently we have the following issues: 1. Door ajar and buzzing randomly when yr driving - stops for short time after slamming drivers side door. 2. Neither driver or passenger electric side mirror adjustment will work. 3. None of the electric window buttons work on drivers side door, passenger door, or either back door. 4. Passenger side electric door lock button does work to lock all door locks except the passenger lock - it moves some but won't completely raise. UNLESS you use the keyless entry button on my keychain but only when I'm inside the car or extremely close. 5. Cruise Control buttons on steering wheel do not work-also the CRUISE light on instrument panel doesn't light up when you turn the key. All other instrument lights seem to come on when turn the key. 6. Heater won't get warm but blower works fine. A/c works great. I've noticed sometimes heater gets warm but doesn't last. Coolant has been put in and kept a close eye on. So I'm leaning toward drivers side door panel needs removed and check wiring possibly the panel computer thingy needs replaced? Considered possibly changing battery in keyless entry thing but can't figure out how take it apart lol. Hopefully just a fuse on some of this but considering sometimes it works, sometimes it dont not looking good on my opinion. Cross yr fingers I'll keep you posted. Keep the ideas coming I'm a single momma who's never had to work on her own vehicle. Who would thought pulling fuses be so that hard lol

Take the rings off your key fob and pry it open , then you can change the battery in key fob.

Literally everything you have said is happening to me right now ... It just started 3 days ago after having the car for over a year however my windows are still working for now except my back passenger window has never worked since I got the car ... Did you ever figure out the cause ?
