Infinity I30

Asked by adlynnmartinez Aug 19, 2012 at 10:25 AM about the 1996 INFINITI I30 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 96 Infinity Infinity I30 keeps going thru alternators (3 in 3 years).  The mechanic says we are unlucky and keep getting bad alternators, and replaces them for free.  Could there be something else?

I have a 96 I30 and never had to replace the alternator so there must be something else burning them out in my opionion.

We had our 2000 I-30 alternator replaced in 2009 and it just went out last night (May 2013). In my opinion, there is definitely something wrong with the Infiniti alternators. Didn't mind in 2009, figured things wear out. But now, just four years later, that isn't right. I think Tom is right. We are considering paying more and not having to risk another replacement.

Is the bottom cover on the car missing? Water can be shorting out the Alternator.

I would replace the battery, starter & alternator same time. Check the tensioner too. The battery should be low 550 coca Walmart. I ordered my alternator and starter off line new. Good luck
