Hesitation and stalling, 305 1990 Silverado

Asked by th3w4iterabbit Mar 13, 2017 at 08:30 PM about the 1990 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It's slow to crank, acts like it wants to stall
until warmed up, and will hesitate real bad
when accelerating. It will also stall after
warmed up and try to drive off. I got it from
someone who let it sit up for a year and a
half. I've changed fuilds and filters so far
and I'm ready to change the fuel pump. Has
anyone else had this problem and how was
it resolved?

The fuel system may be gummed up. If you can, drain the gas tank and put fresh gas in it and a new fuel filter in it along with a good fuel system cleaner like Techron and an additive that removes water like Heet.

Would I have to drop the tank to drain it because I might as well change the fuel pump for good measure if so.

If it were my truck I would drop the tank and replace the pump while I was at it.
