Does anyone know how accurate the Chevrolet forums vin number decoder is? Follow up question: What year could I potentially use as an alternative if I canʻt find the same gear ratio as my 1993 Chevy?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1993 Chevy Cheyenne K 1500 4wd LB ring gears teeth are in pieces due to
a lock up in the rear axle. I used the Chevrolet forums vin decoder on their
website to diagnose what is the exact gear ratio for my truck. Apparently the
gear ratio gave me the specs with a GT4 code = 3.73 ratio. I emailed the
website and gotten no response back to find out whether the information given
was accurate or not. Finding this information out about the gear ratio is crucial
because of the fact that I am in the stages of wanting to purchase the precise
parts for my truck. Any information at all is very appreciated.

Look on the glove box door, or diver side tags on door jam. Your looking for a GS3 or a F77 number. This is indicates a 3.73 gear ratio. The GT4 is indicating a 3.73 gear ratio also.
