Truck temp gauge shows truck running hot after being turned off

My truck does not run hot while driving but when I
turn it off my gauge runs up in the red is this
normal

something else maybe grounding out on that circuit I don't know but I have a 94 1/2 ton and want to follow this thread

I'd try replacing the temperature sending unit first. There seems to be no signs of overheating. Check the wire at the same time..

When the key is turned off the gauges can jump and will stay wherever they sit. As long as it operates normal with the key on your fine
