First thing to do is check the position of the rotor in the existing distributor. I usually bring cylinder #1 to top dead center on the combustion stroke. That will show you the position of #1 spark plug lead in the distributor cap (the rotor will be point to the number 1 spark plug lead when cylinder #1 is at TDC Top Dead Center) After that remove the distributor hold down clamp and gently ease the old distributor out. When you install the new distributor make sure the rotor is returned to the #1 position on the distributor cap. You may have to turn the new distributor counter clockwise a bit before you slip it in so the distributor drive gear meshes properly with the cam drive gear. The rotor will once again be pointed directly at the #1 lead on the distributor cap. Mission accomplished.
