Car seems to be overheating

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 i30 with 106K miles, car was moved from NJ to AZ, on hot days 100 or more after 20 minds of driving the temperature gauge goes up 2 to 3 lines but never gets to the HOT zone.  I replaced the thermostat as a precaution but problem still exists.  Checked no leaks in system.  In morning when cool car runs fine, AC cold, in afternoon car runs hot AC will not work sometimes. (I think engine senses overheating and shuts it down).  Any suggestions on what to check next would be appreciated

I would check your electric fans.. I think you will find the answer there.

Both fans are running fine, I think it might be just years of clog in the radiator. I will have it pressure tested and flush/fill to see what happens.
