Power Steering Causing Smoke

Asked by zpln May 08, 2016 at 02:06 PM about the 2000 INFINITI I30 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I traveled for a road trip with a friend. When I
picked up my friend, my car had smoke coming
from the right side, and my power steering was
gone. When I got to my destination, I noticed
smoke from the same place. I'm supposed to leave
and head home today, but I'm concerned my car
won't make it. I've had to refill my power steering
fluid a few times so far on this trip.

Power steering hose is leaking or possibly the rack and pinion unit. This will NOT cause the vehicle to stop driving but it will not have power steering assist. Regards
