What's the ticking sound? Is it valves or timing

Chain is more of a rattle. Valve clearance might be the ticking noise you are hearing.

Could be an exhaust leak, related to valves and followers, or timing chain. A very light ticking sound can be the normal operation of the fuel injectors.
