I have a 1988 Ford Ltd 5.0. The car had
obviously set for atleast a year. So I flushed
the entire system watching muddy gunk
coming out. Well after 5 times I eventually
succeeded. Put 50/50 in it ran great. No
later than 2 or 3 days it started to run hot but
I would take no chances shut the car down.
Small mechanic shop down from my house
says thermostat. Paid them $100 to install
and they supposdly showed me the old one.
Ok. Next day didn't get a mile engine light
comes on again I'm sensing its running hot
luckily not to far from house before it really
let me know it was yet still running hot . The
fan moved fast and fine cause someone told
me to check the fan. Why is my crown Vic
still running hot ? Radiater no leaks.

My first thought is air in the system but due to the age perhaps the radiator is plugged up. You could get an idea of the heat dissipation with a thermometer at different areas on the radiator. Only other idea would be a worn water pump. If you have not done so already might want to do pressure test on the system.
