I have a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T w/ 34,000 mi. The turbo isn't working & they said it's due to not changing the oil soon enough. The service guy said the turbo is "sludgy". I've always run Amsoil synthetic oil which is rated for 15k mi in engines w/ turbo. It's been 9k mi since last oil change, so I should be good for another 6k mi. I'm wondering if anyone else has had trouble w/ the turbo? They are saying it's not under warranty because the oil wasn't changed every 3k mi. & is $2000 to fix!

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Anyone have trouble w/ the turbo? Service dept says It's malfunctioning because it is
"sludgy".  They say the warranty won't cover it because the oil wasn't changed soon
enough. I use Amsoil which is good for 15k mi., but only drove 9k since last change. I'm
pretty certain it's not the fault of the oil. Has anyone else had an issue w/ the turbo
malfunctioning? It's a $2000 fix.

have someone good at repairs check. it may be a stuck open wastgate, also the air intake ductwork must be clear for air flow

This is the number one problem with turbos they generate such high heat that they cook the oil! You have two options 1. Get Amsoil to document your claim of 15k miles between changes WITH A TURBOCHARGER ! 2. Start a thread on a Hyundai Sante Fe Forum to see of others are having trouble ( the implication is that you have a defective product) Good luck!! My 2013 Hyundai Sante Fe 2.0T AWD is consuming oil. I came across a Class Action suite against KIA and HMM to provide Life Time Engine Warranty for certain class Hyundai and Kia owners. Settlement was submitted for Class approval on May 7, 2020. For those that have posted a question about it here, go to your dealer and ask them to do an Oil Consumption Test and if your car is burning oil then Hyundai/KIA will replace your engine. It is a KNOWN ISSUE CASE NO: 8:17-CV-00838-JLS-JDE

I have had trouble with this several times and you can fix the problem yourself with a multimeter and a wrench. The wastegate is voltage-sensitive and you adjust a rod in the rear of the engine which sets the voltage. Watch youtube to get the info. It will save you about $800 and takes about an hour your first time.
