Sonata shorted cam shaft wires

Asked by Jun 04, 2017 at 03:38 PM about the 2001 Hyundai Sonata GL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

3 wires going to cam sensor, they got crossed up and
touched together while the car was running, well after
they shorted out the engine died and has not cranked
since. Wires do not have any current going to them with
key off or on , car will turn over but not start , I was told
it's the engine computer that shorted out. Checked all
fuses nothing blown. Mechanic said computer also but
will one from same year make and model car work without
having to be reprogrammed?
