I just bought a 2000 Ford Focus SE 2.0L Zetec with dual overhead cam and before I
bought it as is I drove it and everything was alright except it was a little sluggish going up
hill. I put about 150 miles or less on it before the check engine light came on. I wentand
got the codes checked and it said the MAF and TPS sensors. I changed those and it got
worse. It now idles at 900rpms and shoots up to 4000 rpms without pushing the gas.
When I drove it around the block I got to speed nicely but then the transmission reved real
high but was knocking my speed down. It is still rough going up hill as well. We have
changed the MAF and TPS sensors, air filter, cabin air filter and fuel filter. I now have 5
codes coming up on my check engine light and they seem to all be electrically related. The
codes are now: P0113, P0102, P1120, P1000, P1125. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. I have only had the car for 5 days and would love to have her running up to
par.

I feel your Pain. I also purchased a 2000 Ford Focus SE for my College Student son and the car has been an Electrical Nightmare. I've been rec'ing the same idiot Engine Error codes P1120 + others. Took it to the Ford Dealership in Gaithersburg MD where they proceeded to rape me for $240 and still didn't fix the elec. engine issues. I've also replaced the whole Throttle Body with a new TSP sensor, MAF, Fuel injector and Crank Shaft sensors. The Ford is still acting up and will almost die ever time we go up any hills. It's a freaking PITA. Good Luck. Please let me know what you find out to fix your problem.

Check ur idle control sensor and the wiring in the driver's side door

without running the codes, I do know that on the zetec focus, the idle air control valve needs cleaned often! it's kinda a pain but, if your focus doesn't like to stay running, simply remove it, clean & dry it, & reinstall. I would start with basics! remove the intake tube & clean it out if needed, use brake clean or throttle body cleaner to clean maf, let dry b4 re-installing it! clean idle air control valve (located on the back of the intake- back of motor! if you stand at the passenger front fender, look under the intake runner, you will see the idle air control valve) run the codes & find what they all relate to & find the common denominator! the zetec motor is kinda basic & easily diagnosed! a lot of parts available in local junkyards!!! keep in mind my cell is dead so, without switching sites, I cannot run those error codes to give a better answer.code p0113 intake air temp,code p012 is often associated w/ p0100,p0101,p0103,p0104 & p0102 often are closely related & problems with mass air flow sensor-maf sensor on the intake tube. could be a lose wire in the harness where it connects to th maf sensor? Why pay a dealership a lot of $ when maf sensors are everywhere in a junkyard, like a you-pull- it style yard & a focus maf sensor is a dime a dozen!!! Could just need removed & cleaned by spraying it w/ carb cleaner/brake cleaner/ throttle body cleaner,etc. LET DRY BEFORE RE-INSTALLING OR ELSE!!!
