Cadillac STS 2008 wont start

Asked by GuruSYTNB May 16, 2019 at 01:10 PM about the 2008 Cadillac STS V8 Performance RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2008 Cadillac STS will not start.  The lights and accessories come on but
the engine does not turn over or even make a clicking noise

This could be a dying battery that just can't produce the usual dead battery clicking. Or a dead starter/solenoid that produces a single click that you can't hear. Or it's the voltage regulator restricting electrical current.

Disconnect battery and then reconnect. Works on my car everytime. But it is annoying. And it doesn't fix it permanently. Will probably come back sooner or later.

My 2005 STS is doing the same thing but when I go to push start button the dashboard goes black and turns normal 5 seconds later!

I'd suspect you have an electrical ground problem in the starting system, like a defective battery cable or loose corroded connection.
