Asked by Jan 07, 2018 at 11:17 PM about the 2000 Hyundai Accent L 2-Door Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Freind installed a new belt the old one didn't have
the grooves. Left and it ran good before it stoped
and he said he had to put new belt on to turn the
cam to timing marks but then had to pull belt off
crank to get crank on mark and now it kinds back
fires but doesn't sound like their isn't any
compression what do I do to fix it so it will run

Sounds like bent valves from timing marks not properly aligned

If it sounds like it is back firing you have bent valves. Sorry to inform you of this but it's the truth ..the 1.5 liter Hyundai engine is interfience engine meaning if the timing belt breaks or slips you will have the pistons and valves hit each other causing major damage
