Why does it take forever to fill has tank?

Asked by KauffmanB Aug 23, 2014 at 10:13 AM about the 2002 Hyundai Sonata FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The past few months when I attempt to pump gas in my car it keeps shutting off like the
tank is full. It wasn't full. In the tank it sounds like it's full of gas but I had just started
pumping. I tried several different pumps and the same thing happens. It only works when
I barely have the pump running

There is a auxiliary vent solenoid that blocks up causing this hard to fill condition. Its under the rear of vehicle behind the gas tank on the lh side. It's simple to replace but is expensive. I believe it is under $200.00
