my car was requiring jump for several week , then it would nto start at all. i had had the batter and alternator chedked recently, could it be the started?

It could be the starter but it works with a jump, not to say there is not a problem with it. But more than likely there are some bad battery connections, or bad battery wires. Inspect the battery wires and try cleaning up the ground wire especially.
