Why it Dies when put in drive

Replaced trany with one from junk
yard, when I put it in drive it stalls I
can put it in low and reverse and it's
fine I can take off and drive it but not
in Drive I have to go into low gear first
and then back into drive, when I come
to a stop I have to put in the low so it
doesn't die, need help ?

Sounds like maybe the torque convertor is locking up. Junkyard transmissions are a crap shoot. Best bet is to have a trans shop diagnose the issue. Worst case your removing it and replacing with another.
