Could it be the fuel pump?

Coming back from a long trip, my ford explorer started stalling, loosing power until finally it died at a stop light.

Are you noticing any foul odor? Sulfur smell? Could be the Catalytic converter failing and causing too much back pressure. Just a guess..

if its the catalytic converter. you might see a increase in in your heat. as for the fuel pump. that could cause it. but usually it will be while your up to speeds like 60-80 mph but if you want to check you can go and get a super cheap tire pressure gauge and often as not a tire stem remover. and you can test pressure that way, the place to check will be on the fuel rail, it should be obvious but sometimes you have to really look.. the fuel pressure should be about 35 psi. best of luck to you!!

No odor. I bought some gas in a small town, maybe it was bad gas? I drove my car to a shop down the street and back and it ran fine, but it was a short drive.

a can of octane booster can help with bad gas , in your car
We had the same thing happen to our 2016 Ford Explorer. We had to pull the fuse to the fuel pump, start the engine, which burns the fuel in the cylinder, replace the fuse and then restart the engine. Not sure if that is good or not but that is what we had to do to get it going. Same thing, we bought the cheapest fuel in a small town.
