Asked by Kimberly Aug 08, 2016 at 04:44 PM about the 2000 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2000 ford explorer with 4.0 engine will start but
it sputters and doesn't idle smoothly at all! The
rpm gauge won't go above 1. Will drive good for
about a quarter of a mile then won't accelerate can
hold pedal to floor won't get any gas. I've changed
the fuel pump not it. I've changed the coil pack not
it. I've changed censors and spark plugs and spark
plug wires I don't know what else to do!

Any check engine lights on? If so take it to your local auto parts store and ask them if they would scan it. Usuall free. If no lights check for plugged exhaust.

Yes check engine light is on sometimes it blinks. They ran a code yesterday said it was the coil pak so changed it now $72 later still the same. They took off Cadillac converters all four of them and beat them out. Do you suppose fuel injectors could cause this problem

Trying to clean out catatlic converters work sometimes out of four converters one is still clogged. Do this test at night start vehicle and let idle for about 20 to 30 minutes then look under vehicle at the converters if one starts glowing red that converter is still clogged.
