buying a car in a different state

Asked by Moinkg May 18, 2020 at 06:33 PM about the 2005 Hyundai Tiburon GT FWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I am planning to move from NY to Florida. What is the cost difference in cost of car (probably either a Hyundai or Kia) and cost I have to pay the state to buy? Either I drive the new car to Florida or take public transport to Florida and sell the car in NY.

Look up the DMV fees and sales tax rates for each state. Until you have proof of Florida residence you will pay NY fees and taxes.

The cost of living is high in NY. So to buy the vehicle in FL will probably be cheaper. You pay sales tax to your home State. If it were me I'd drive to FL, assuming your current vehicle will make the trip, then after I was settled in FL shop for a new vehicle. Hope that helps! Jim
