2 - questions: 1) Replacing condenser in my GLS 6 cyl 2)sensor reset after replacing battery

Asked by Melzie May 04, 2013 at 09:28 PM about the 2005 Hyundai Sonata V6 GLS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2 issues:

1) I need to replace the condenser in my 2005 GLS 6-6cl Sonata and wonder if I need
a Four Seasons A/C Receiver Drier in addition to the condenser.  It doesn't look that
there's one in the car, but I could be wrong.
2) I have had to put 2 batteries in my car and every time I have done this, my car fails
smog.  Everything passes except OBD and the tech said it is probably because the
reading doesn't reset.  I have driven the car more than a couple hundred miles, so I
just don't know what to do.  Is there a way to get this done with a sensor reset tool or
do I have to pay to have someone do this all the time.  Maybe I need to have the car
hooked to a portable generator the next time, BEFORE they take the battery off.

Can anyone help me out?

you dont need to replace the drier unless you had comprssor failure causing system contamination. as far as the smog issue It probably takes a while for the obd system to run all its checks to clear the p1000 code which just means all obd checks havent been completed and is stored in the pcm when the codes are cleared or in this case the battery disconnected which does clear any dtc's the system may have. it takes certain driving condtions to be met to complete all the checks and to clear the p1000 and the way you drive may not be suitable to those conditions so it may take a while to meet them.

Thank you. My AC is leaking and the condenser needs to be replaced, but it does not sound like I need the drier then. I don't want to buy it if I don't need it. And...I have not idea where it goes, since we can't even see where it is. Maybe it's there and just not visible until we remove the condenser. As for the battery issue, I had this exact thing happen the last time, Feb 2011. It's like clockwork. I had to deal with this to get smog passed that year. Now, I had to replace the battery 3/26 and need to smog my car again before 6/20. I've already driven the car over 2000 miles, ample distance, I'd think. I have never experienced this with any car that I ever owned before. I'm 63 and have been driving cars for a long time too. It's so frustrating.
