Metal shavings in oil pan

Asked by GuruS6Y6Z Jun 15, 2019 at 08:10 PM about the 2001 Honda Prelude 2 Dr SE Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just had local Honda dealership install a used tranny in my 2001 Honda prelude coupe. Decided to change my oil, after draining the oil pan I noticed several small particles of metal shavings at the bottom of oil drain pan. What does this indicate? What could of caused this? How serious is this, will I have to replace the engine?  "HELP"!!!!!

1 Answer

If the engine runs and is not making funny noises I would not panic. Install a magnetic drain plug and keep an eye on the shavings. If you are seeing chunks of metal you should be worried. Post a photo of the metal if you can.
