Why does it feel like my brakes are locking up after driving about 5 miles?

Asked by May 19, 2017 at 01:25 PM about the 1993 Honda Civic LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've been having a problem with my 93 Honda Civic
sedan LX lately where the brakes would start to
lock up after driving about 5 to 6 miles, I could still
get it gas it would get up to like 2000 3000 RPM
but just wouldn't go anywhere. When I get home to
park my front brakes are smoking really bad but
after letting my car sit for an hour or so it's drivable
again but does the same problem. I've put a brand
new master cylinder and brake booster in but have
no idea what it could be

If the master cylinder brake fluid level is over the full max line, this would cause that. The brake fluid heats up and expands, and has no were to go but to push on the brake calipers pistons to activate the brakes. May have to take some brake fluid out of the master cylinder. Another cause would be the brake line hoses running to the brake calipers. The hoses do deteriorate internally causing a blockage of flow with the brake fluid. The hydraulic hoses to the brake calipers would need replacing.
