Ford Explorer Won't Start

Asked by GuruHB2CJ Jul 16, 2019 at 08:12 AM about the 2000 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

3 to 4 times in the past 6mo. the vehicle
would not start. Finally it did. This time it's
DOA. It has power to the coil but no spark to
cylinders. Installed new coil pack but it didn't
help. Any suggestions? And on the SOHV
does this engine employ a crank sensor or
cam sensor for triggering the coils?

Yes, you're on the right track now. This engine uses a camshaft position sensor and a crankshaft position sensor which contribute to having ignition spark. Scan for codes and see which one it is. Code P0320 is crank, P0340 is cam sensor. I bet it's P0320...heat and old age kills them first.
