Audi Turbocharger Issue
I own a 2009 Audi A4 Turbo, 152,000 mile, new engine at 68,000. The check engine light came on a few days ago and I had it checked today. The repair person told me the code was Turbo Charger Under Boost. Can someone help me what that means please? I've driven the car the last 2 days with the light on. Should I stop driving it? Is this a big problem?
According to my Audi Shop Service Manual, this would be Error Code P0299,Turbo/Super Charger Underboost. The manual says that the most common cause for this condition is a faulty wastegate bypass regulator valve created by 1- Mechanical damage at turbo/super charger, 2- Faulty charge air pressure sensor. Most noticeable symptom is a mild to sever lost of boost power or complete turbo failure. Recommendation: Have technician conduct a complete inspection of the part(s) in question and conduct pressure test for possible leak.
It may mean you need a new turbo but I would check to see if the air filter is dirty. What did the mechanic say about it?
The car seems to be running ok but the mil light will not go off. I was very low in gas on Monday and it came on also before I could get gas. He ran a scan or diagnostic, whatever its called, and he said the scanner was displaying Engine - Turbo Underboost. Thanks for your reply.
