Under the hood

Asked by Young Feb 26, 2016 at 09:46 AM about the 1994 Honda Accord EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car recently started to not accelerate when I
would press the grass . I would have to floor it to
pick up speed it won't drive anything past 45
without a fight  any suggestions . Another problem
I've been having is my car cranks but won't spark
like won't catch and sometimes doesn't catch gas
to get the car to start . . I was told I have a oily
distributor so I'm going to get that replaced ,
however my car cut off this morning while in drive
after going through the acceleration problem I
pulled over and tried to make a u turn how ever the
car Sunddenly cut off . I then started it back up and
proceed but the couple blocks in the acceleration
problem occurred again . One last problem is my
cool air intake filter thing ( I'm not too sure what's
the proper name for it sorry) it keeps coming apart I
was told I just have to screw it in but May that have
something to do with the acceleration problem ?

I had a 1995 Honda Accord EX, great car, for 19 years. Yes, sounds like you need a new distributor, not cheap. The part will cost you $350 or so plus labor. When was the last time you had your car serviced? How many miles are on this car? When I sold my car just under 150,000 miles, it ran like a new car, BUT, these cars like all other vehicles need maintenance.
