Why won’t my Sonata Hybrid start when I use the smart key holder?

Asked by GuruH85KX Jul 29, 2019 at 11:54 PM about the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Premium FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Key not detected warning came on when I pushed start. Used the smart key
holder, pushed start, pressed break, and all the warning lights on the dash
flashed intermittently along its som type of alarm on and off. “Check break”
warning also came on. I couldn’t move the gear shift. The break pedal slipped
down then slipped again. The inside lights, radio and air work. There was
noise under the hood but I couldn’t figure out what it was. It stopped in about
a minute. I’ve replaced the battery once this year and had the car jump
started twice by AAA.

My 2016 sonata hybrid did same last night when I tried to turn it on. Check HEV system and CEL was on. Car won’t move cos the gas engine won’t power on. No answer yet

same issue here on my 2015 hybrid limited . did you all have any updates ? I have read that the car starts on the 270 v hybrid battery not the car battery which would explain the replacement batteruy not curing the issue.

My hybrid battery is really low (so low it might be damaged). I can't start the car because the "starter" is actually the HEV system. Went in and talked with two local Hyundai dealers and they have no way to recharge the hybrid battery!!?? Hyundai didn't think through all the details when they designed a hybrid. Kinda reminds me of the early 80's when GM just swapped spark plugs for glow plugs and called it a diesel.
