2015 Accent Low Oil PSI Hot

Asked by Oct 13, 2019 at 02:55 PM about the 2015 Hyundai Accent GL 4-Door Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

No issues when cold, but low oil pressure at idle after running at 50 mph or
higher for a few minutes. Changed oil pressure switch, oil pump, pickup tube,
both VVT solenoids and water pump. Tried 5w-20 up to straight 30w with no
difference. There is a ticking sound coming from the front of the engine in the
area of the cam sprockets and I’m leaning towards replacing those but I feel
like I’m just throwing money at it.

The only thing I’ve found so far is that the oil pump bypass piston was stuck
in its bore. It had chips of metal around the piston and I haven’t found where
they might have come from. The rest of the engine is super clean and no
signs of wear. I pulled some of the cam bearing caps to check for damage
and looks like new. Just pulled the valve cover and spun the engine over and
there is oil pouring out the bottom of the exhaust VVT solenoid but don’t
know if that is normal. The old VVT solenoids were noticeably looser in the
bores but don’t know if that would make a difference.
