Should I allow the Ins. Co. to repair my water damaged car or just total it?

Question type: General

I drove my 1997 Honda Accord into about three feet of rain water.  I bought this car new
and it only has 100,000 mi.  I have maintained my car and love it.  The Ins. Co will either
repair it or total the car.  The mechanic that is working on it says the car will be fine.  The
computer module is fine, he says.  What do you think?

Water problems/water damage are issues that can haunt a car owner for years. The problem is corrosion. This initial water damage can be cleaned up, but what happens is as time goes on the wire connections and electronics start to corrode from the moisture that remains in these areas.

That is exactly what my son-in-law is telling me. Ins. co has not given me a figure to total the car. Thanks.
