oil pressure for 2.5 liter Subaru when hot and ideling.

Asked by Superman100 Dec 02, 2018 at 06:18 PM about the 2016 Subaru Forester 2.5i Convenience

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My oil light came on recently. It was one quart low.  The car has 43,000 miles
on it. I have installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge for troubleshooting
purposes. What should the oil pressure be while ideling and a hot engine ?

I would hope you see a range of no less than 20 to 60 psi (hopefully higher than 20 at idle). What do you have now? You need to have an oil consumption test done at your Subaru dealer as you may be due a new engine.

I have 4 psi while hot and Ideling. Changed the oil and filter, got 5 psi. In both cases the oil perssure is 50+ when the engine is revved up.

4 psi is way too low. You need to take it to a Subaru dealer. You may get a new engine on Subaru.
